Job Title: Payroll Specialist

HMH is currently hiring a Payroll Specialist based in Veracruz, Mexico to manage the day-to-day operations of MX payroll processes and activities and regulatory compliance activities.


Essential Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the successful execution of all MX Payroll and Benefits processes
  • Manage service delivery metrics and third-party supplier performance in relation to the assigned process(s)
  • Drive increased productivity and compliance through process improvements, standardization and simplification
  • Foster a culture of customer service excellence and continuous process improvement by providing “Best in Class” customer service  and advise on complex questions/requests from employees, business leaders and HR partner
  • Maintain high standards of accuracy, timeliness and quality to ensure compliance with relevant legal and HMH policy requirements
  • Participate in internal, external payroll and benefits audits
  • Preparation of year-end reporting & associated statistics
  • Collect and process all pay-related data in the payroll system while ensuring data integrity.
  • Ensure accuracy by auditing entries and pay results
  • Respond to employee inquiries and resolve issues
  • Process gross-to-net payroll in partnership with third party vendor
  • Handle direct deposit and positive pay file transmissions
  • Handle wage garnishments in accordance to federal and state laws
  • Handle unemployment claims
  • Special projects, as assigned



  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college in related area.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in payroll administration activities is required
  • Knowledge of financial processes involving payroll: legal regulations, tax reporting regulations, interactions with general ledger and reconciliation processes.
  • Experience with automated and integrated payroll and benefits processing systems
  • Strong customer service focus, with the ability to anticipate customer needs with a high level of responsiveness
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently or as part of a team environment
  • Applies solid judgment ensuring integrity, compliance, & confidentiality
  • Passion for continuous process improvement and simplification
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills with proven ability to organize and analyze data
  • Demonstrated organization skills, attention to detail and accuracy
  • Comfortable delivering against quantitative and qualitative performance metrics
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook)
  • Detail oriented


Desired Characteristics:

  • Payroll Software experience/knowledge preferred
  • Local Security Tax and ISN Certification preferred
