Designer (Contractor)

Essential Functions

  • Use of 2D and 3D CAD software in design
  • Create and/or modify 3D models and drawings to manufacturing standards for Pro-NC manufacture/Model Based Design utilizing company protocols and parametric practices
  • Create definitions of parts, modules, and assemblies in the form of 3D models, tolerance stack-ups, and various electronic data formats to support analysis, manufacturing, assembly, tooling, and inspection and evolve mechanical product designs in Pro / Engineer
  • Create models in a linked model environment using “Assemblies and Components” functionality, as well as check, validate, and issue master models and associated drawings
  • Create Bills of Material for sales orders and ongoing product evolution and generate general arrangement and manufacturing drawings and instructions in accordance with ASME Y14.5, including machine details and weldments.
  • Determine dimensional constraints and geometric tolerances required for proper clearances and fits while maximizing manufacturing capabilities
  • Work within the guidelines of applicable HMH Policies and Procedures, Engineering Standards, Product Definition Operating Procedures, Specifications, Government and Commercial Standards and special security requirements
  • Support cost-out, quality and cycle time improvements through product design
  • Ensure all interface characteristics between components are established
  • Create and improve product specifications, including sourcing, assembly, test and field service procedures
  • Maintain the accuracy of native files in the product lifecycle management system
  • Identifying and assess hazards and specify actions to control risks to people & environment
  • Participate in design and value engineering reviews
  • Provide technical support to mainly internal customers

Basic Qualifications

  • Associate Degree in engineering/design, or equivalent experience
  • Good understanding of engineering drawings and familiarity with CAD software

Desired Qualifications

  • 3-5 years relevant experience in the industry
  • Knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing ANSI Y14.5M (GD&T)
  • Proficient using MS Office applications, AutoCAD, and ProE (or equivalent)
  • Knowledgeable of applicable codes and standards (API 6A, API 16A/C/D, etc.)
  • Understands general material types and manufacturing techniques
  • Ability to work in a team environment on short- or long-term projects
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Strong presentation skills
